The Fox Williams/CIArb pre-moot for the Vis moot is one of the most highly regarded pre-moots. It attracts teams from across the globe and is renowned for its exceptionally high-quality administration, judging and feedback. Register to be an arbitrator.
Any teams participating in the Vis or Vis East are welcome to apply. There is no cost. We are invariably over-subscribed and have a difficult task in selecting teams who may participate. Teams are selected on a number of factors including a balance between common law and civil law jurisdictions.
Teams registration for the 8th Fox Williams/CIArb 2023 pre-moot is now closed. If your team has not received an acceptance email or is not on the successful teams list, it has not been selected for this year’s pre-moot. We have received a high number of applications and we are only able to accommodate 30 teams. Please do not let this decision hold you back from applying next year.
We welcome applications from anybody interested in judging. We have a diverse range of participants including from pupil barristers and trainee solicitors to retired judges as well as many lawyers from other jurisdictions. Everyone is welcome. To order to sustain our high standards we do expect a good familiarity with the problem. Tribunals will have an experienced chair and co-arbitrators with a variety of experience. In this way we seek to replicate the Vis experience.
The pre-moot this year will take place on 25 and 26 February 2023. We are planning to host the pre-moot in person. However, we would like to hear your preferences and availability to attend the pre-moot in person or whether you would prefer to attend virtually. The Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot (“Vis Moot”) is the world’s leading law school competition fostering the study of international commercial law and international commercial arbitration.
The Vis Moot is organized by the Association for the Organization and Promotion of the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot, and is sponsored by numerous institutions worldwide, such as UNCITRAL, International Chamber of Commerce, American Arbitration Association, The London Court of International Arbitration, Swiss Arbitration Association and the like. It is traditionally held in Vienna in the week before Easter and, more recently, Vis East (a sister event) has taken place in Hong Kong a few weeks before.
To help the participants prepare for the Moot there are a number of “pre-moots” around the world. These use the same problem and enable teams participating at the Vis Moot to try different team combinations and refine arguments.Fox Williams LLP, in association with the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, is delighted to co-host a pre-moot that has become a staple of the mooting calendar and one of the best regarded pre-moots on the global stage.
It aims to support the purpose of the Vis Moot namely to foster the study of international commercial law and arbitration and provide a practical training to students for resolving international business disputes.
